US television network HBO has all-but-confirmed that the Game Of Thrones-branded beer, released in the US last month, is heading to Australia.
The network registered for a trade mark of “Game Of Thrones” last week, under the Class 32 banner of alcoholic beverages.
The beer was first announced in December, with New York based brewery Ommegang producing the ‘Iron Throne Blonde’ ale. It went on sale on March 31, in conjunction with season three of the hit show. Three more Game Of Thrones-themed beers are planned for launch later in the year.
When originally announced, no Australia release was mentioned, with one local site even adding: “No news as to whether Australia will get a hold of these yeasty good drops in time for the new season.”
The lodgement of an Australian trade mark – number 1552052 – on April 17 is a strong signal that the beer will be released in Australia soon.
The exact classes the pending trade mark covers are:
Alcoholic beverages, namely, beer, ale, lager, stout, porter and shandy; energy drinks; non-alcoholic cocktail mixes; non-alcoholic beverages namely, carbonated beverages, cider and fruit drinks
The trade mark application was lodged by Australian patent and trade mark attorneys Chrysiliou IP, on behalf of Home Box Office Inc.
